Our Board Members

Michael Sutton [President]

Michael is a retired public servant who has lived in the Bay and Basin area since 2016.  His academic background is in economics and his work in in the Federal government involved policy, programs, regulation and governance.

Robbie Collins [Vice President]

Robbie retired from the role Head of University of Wollongong, Shoalhaven Campus in 2018 after 15 years in the position. Robbie’s life work is about linking education with community, businesses & government to create strategic mutual benefit.

Rob Dunn [Treasurer]

Rob qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1981 and worked for over 22 years in senior financial roles in the UK, PNG and Australia. Rob also has extensive experience in the not-for-profit sector, with Landcare Australia and as CEO of the Nature Conservation Trust of NSW and the Great Eastern Ranges Initiative, as well as serving on the Board of BirdLife Australia. Rob has been part of the boat restoration team for seven years and as Treasurer for the last two years. His university post-graduate qualifications are in ornithology and applied science. 

Gary Brady [Secretary]

Gary enjoyed his career in public education, working in schools in Sydney and the Shoalhaven as Classroom Teacher, Head Teacher and Deputy Principal along with a period as Senior Education Officer in the Education Department’s Disadvantaged Schools program. He is a volunteer at the museum, working in the Fleet Restoration team and has been on the Board for five years.

Frank Howarth [Chair of the Halloran Collection Committee]

Frank Howarth has had a significant career in the cultural and environmental sectors in New South Wales, with national and international roles in industry bodies. He was Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust from 1996 to 2004, and Director of the Australian Museum from 2004 to 2014, and currently holds a number of board and advisory roles.

Shirley Fitzgerald

Shirley is an academic, author and historian who has worked with community groups to record their history through books films and websites, street pavement signs and brochures.

Stephen Buzacott

Stephen is an architect with diverse experience in architecture, urban design and master planning. He lives in the Shoalhaven and is the immediate past president of the Berry Garden Club and a current member of the Shoalhaven Arts Advisory Committee. 

Erica Jones

Erica, currently the general manager of a disability support organisation in the Shoalhaven, has a background specialising in business and management. She also serves on several other committees and advisory boards and contributes to projects promoting community resilience and inclusivity.

Diana Lorentz, Museum Director

Diana has a Master of Design (Research) and has extensive experience in the arts and culture sector as well as museum and collection management, including at the Powerhouse Museum Sydney. Diana brings a multi-disciplinary aspect to the role of Museum Director. She has a particular interest in creating engaging visitor experiences and making the Museum's collections accessible to a wide audience. Diana is on the Board of the Australian Maritime Museums Council, and she is a Councillor on the Australian Register of Historic Vessels.
