WATERLINE EXHIBITION

The Australian love affair with the water has become a quintessential theme in the nation’s psyche. Boating, fishing, and summer holidays at the beach have become part of a cultural identity that embraces leisure time and the great outdoors. Every year as warmer weather approaches, the country’s creeks, beaches, and waterways become a hive of activity, with people taking part in their favourite water-based pursuits. Jervis Bay is no exception. In summer, the population swells as at Shoalhaven Heads, Culburra, Sussex Inlet, Vincentia, and Hyams Beach as holidaymakers are lured by white sands, crystal waters and the abundance of recreational activities on offer. The objects in the Waterline exhibition tell the story of life and leisure on the water. From fishing and boat building to kayaking and scuba diving, these objects paint a picture of life on Jervis Bay.
